Welcome to Olivier’s beautiful ecological holiday estate north of Langon, in Aquitaine, enveloped in a pinewood forest. His 20-acre meadow offers 10 types of eco friendly accommodation inspired by five continents, from yurts to Gypsy caravans.
One of his projects merges Mongalian elements with French landscape. Yurts have been the traditional homes for nomadic Mongols dating back thousands of years. Here, the yurt’s white fabric contrasts with Gironde’s greenery. The colours within complement those of a bright summer day. The signature of this accommodation is the woodstove which your family or friends can huddle around. One double bed and two pull-out beds can host up to six guests.
In order to avoid any negative impact on the environment, Olivier decided to only install ephemeral dwellings, assembling and disassembling the structures at will, since they are without foundations. All the homes have their own dry toilet and were built with green materials. Have you ever had a swim in a natural pool? This ecological concept uses macrophyte plants such as reeds in a separate basin to filter the water – pristine as a mountain lake.
Thematic animated clips on sustainable development are also prepared to explain the workings of the site to guests and help both the young and adults to lead a more eco-friendly lifestyle.
Want a bite to eat? The bar serves on-the-spot and take-away food – regional specialties, most of them organic, such as foie gras and pâtés from the nearby preserve maker enhanced with Sauternes wine. You may also prepare your own dishes in the equipped kitchen.
Finally, vehicles remain in the parking lot at a distance from the site so as to better enjoy your holiday without a car!
Set in the heart of the preserved nature area of Bazas, south of Bordeaux, an area well known for its wine production, Olivier’s estate is a good base camp to discover this beautiful French region. Start off on a ride on a cycling path to the Roquetaillade the nearby Château, less than 3 miles away, a prime example of medieval architecture fully restored and complete with its round towers and battlements. As for Bazas (3 miles), it is a stage on the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage where you may discover its UNESCO-listed cathedral and magnificent heritage. Around 35 miles from Bordeaux, you can also take a wine tour through the vineyards grown in biodynamics.
