Meet the host
Welcome to the farmhouse gîte of Beatrice Barralon, a breeder of dairy ewes who practices organic farming! You will get a taste of the life of a French breeder as well as her different homemade cheeses. Located in the middle of 30 hectares (74 acres) of woods and pastures, its traditional stone structure was renovated together with her husband, Jean-Paul, into a cosy and spacious guesthouse. Although attached to the owners’ main house, the gîte will give you enough privacy if you wish for it.
The autonomous guest house – without restaurant service – has a large living-room with a pretty fireplace corner, a foldable bed, a fully-equipped kitchen, toilets and a bathroom, as well as 3 separate bedrooms upstairs. During fine weather, you can enjoy the fantastic panoramic view from the roofed terrace.
The farm being at the end of a rarely driven road, your children can run around safely and play on Beatrice and Jean-Paul’s 300sqm of private land (includes parking spaces).
With 80 dairy ewes, the owners practice responsible sheep-raising as active players against farming desertification and for the maintenance of the landscape. Their organic dairy production – cheese, yoghurts, creams and pastries – is sold both at the local market and in shops, certified with the demanding label Ecocert. Upon request, you may also taste the organic garden vegetables that Beatrice lovingly grows.
Very active in the local community, the owners share the cultural life of their village with you, in particular through its festivals and Farmer’s Confederation activities.
Beatrice and Jean-Paul used environmentally-friendly materials such as local stones, bricks, wood, and natural lime. They chose to insulate their walls with hemp, a plant known for being ecologically grown and for its powerful insulating property. The owners also installed solar panels on the roofs, so that the house is completely self-sufficient in hot water. All the taps have water-saving devices. As for electricity, the whole house is equipped with energy-saving lightbulbs and Class A electric appliances. Maintenance products are ecologically-friendly. And to complete their green approach, waste is sorted out and food leftovers composted.
