Have fun and relax in one of the northernmost regions of Germany in the thatched U-shaped farmhouse of Uta and Stephan! The property is over 265 years old and was bought by the owners in 2002, completely renovated and refurbished.
From the very beginning, Uta and Stephan made it their mission to save as many resources as possible and to leave behind an eco-friendly world.
This sustainable vacation property was opened in 2006 and serves as an ideal destination for bike fans, hikers, families and anyone else looking for a feel-good experience during their vacation! Apart from this guest room, perfectly suited for two, they offer six cottages.
The cozy bright double room is located in the southern part of the house. In the morning, you can enjoy a delicious breakfast in the in-house farm Café (not included in the price), where you can also find all kinds of homemade food. Uta also pays special attention to always offer a vegan-friendly selection in order to keep the farm’s carbon footprint as low as possible. Behind the farm are four hectares of land, full with blackberry bushes, fruit trees and birch trees, and even grazed by cattle in the summer months. The harvests are a lot of work but offer the perfect ingredients for unexpected natural dishes!
The hosts prefer using local products for their Café and try to produce everything they can by themselves. Thus, Uta is involved in the association *Slow Food e.V., in which the members are committed to obtain at least 60 percent of their food from the region or the immediate neighborhood. Conveniently, a Bulk-store is part of the farm Café, allowing guests to purchase food in bulk during their vacation.
Wastewater is treated on site by a fully biological treatment plant and reused for the toilets. Uta and Stephan also generate their own electricity through block-type thermal power stations. In 2010, the property was expanded to include another building – the so-called *PLUSenergiehaus*- which actually generates more energy than its residents need. In addition, there is a heat recovery system and a large photovoltaic panel on the roof. Guests with e-cars will find a charging station on the property and guests arriving by train can even rent an electric car.
These dedicated hosts have already received several awards: two FAIRWÄRTS prizes that reward ideas in sustainable tourism and the sustainability prize of the state (Land) of Schleswig Holstein in 2017 They have also received the VIABONO certification since 2016 which rewards energy-plus buildings (CO2OL).
