Discover our eco-villages
- Pays de la Loire is a picturesque region in the west of France. The capital of the region is Nantes (with a population of just over 300,000) and other major cities include Angers and Le Mans.
- The southern region of Occitania, which was only reconstituted in 2016, is based on the cultural heritage of a historical region by the same name. Although this region was never a political entity, it did have its own language, Occitan, which was very similar to Catalan.
The two ecovillages presented here rely on so-called yurts to accommodate guests. A yurt is a generally dismountable tent, almost always round, usually covered with felt blankets, which can be traced back to the tradition of nomads in Western and Central Asia. Even though a yurt is not rather common as a standard housing in Western Europe, the occasional accommodation on vacation and travel is both comfortable and exciting, for young and old. The yurt in Pays de la Loire, more precisely in the Vendée region, can accommodate up to 5 people and the two yurts in Occitania, located in the middle of the Cévennes National Park, even up to 6 and 7 people. Apart from comfort and adventure feeling a further advantage of the accommodation in a yurt is that this convinces with a light and ecological building method and thus with a substantially reduced ecological footprint.
